As dean of the House of Representatives. chairman of the Rules Committee. successful businessman. and one of the great elder statesmen of our country. he was a constant exhibit of the opportunities this great country has to offer to even an immigrant boy who comes here without money. position. or friends. Although born in a foreign country. he fitted well in the American scheme of democracy and. through honesty and rugged individualism. he carved a niche high on the walls of the hall of fame here. He became one of the most loyal Americans I have ever known.
