I shall continue to fight on this issue until the job is done right. Excepting only the Indians every citizen of the United States has ancestors who came to this country from overseas. Despite some favorable provisions of the bill. it utterly fails to write a decent codification of the immigration laws of the United States. It constitutes a slur and an insult not only to thousands of persons who would like to come to the United States. but to people of ethnic origins already here who would be discriminated against by this measure. A vote to override the Presidents veto will add to the slur and insult.
