I offer this amendment at the suggestion of the Department of Justice. which is responsible for the enforcement and administration of what is called the wetback bill passed by the Congress several weeks ago. The proposed amendment. which would add $4.001.000. would allow the Department. according to their estimates and figures. to administer the law passed by the Congress. with the administration of which the Department was charged. On June 5. 1952. funds and authoritative language were provided by the Third Supplemental Appropriation Act. 1952Public Law No. 375to permit the Immigration and Naturalization Service to accomplish the following: First. Strengthen the border patrol force on the Mexican border by 335 additional positions. Second. Establish and operate two processing facilities for the purpose of documenting and fingerprinting apprehended illegal entrants prior to removal to Mexico.
