I am sorry for the people of Formosa. I am sorry for the people of China. I am sorry for Asiatic peoples. but I am not so sorry for them as I would be for the widows that a war would leave in the United States. I love American boys and American mothers and American fathers more than I love the people of Formosa and more than I love the people of China. I am not in favor of casting a single vote that may risk plunging this country into world war III and the sending of brightfaced American boys to die in the jungles of Formosa.
