Session #81 · 1949–51

Speech #810074044

Let me say to the Senator from North Dakota that no one can come into this country under the bill except with the approval of the Attorney General. who already has supervision over the immigration laws. and of the Secretary of Defense. A person cannot wait to secure a visa when his life is threatened. A man who undertakes this dangerous work wants to know that he can come into the United States on 2 minutes notice. that he will be identified and given asylum here. He will not undertake such work unless he knows that. if he is detected and wants to flee for his life. there is an open door into this country for which he is risking his life to serve. and that he will not have to go through the red tape of securing a visa. Let me tell the Senator that every government on earth makes provision of this sort for men who work in the secret service.
