Session #81 · 1949–51

Speech #810057881

Mr. Chairman. this amendment is In substance the same amendment which I offered to the Sims amendment. and I feel that it should be passed in order to protect the leaders of labor and management from being besmirched by the insinuations inadvertently contained in the language of the Wood bill which I seek to have stricken out. This oath of allegiance is copied in part from the United States naturalization law. Just why It should be necessary to give communism such publicity and unearned and unwarranted recognition is beyond my powers to understand. To require these affidavits amounts to a pointing of the finger of suspicion at the leaders of labor and management.
