Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800221416

American newspaper men in foreign countries have been dragooned at the behest of their own Government. The Library of Congress has been tampered with. Congress has been thwarted in its effort to get information on Pearl Harbor. on appointees to the Atomic Energy Commission. on reciprocaltrade operations and now on the loyalty program affecting the vital security of the Nation. A subcommittee of the Committee on the Judiciary investigating the immigration problem has been also denied access to the records. How can the Senate and the Congress legislate upon the great problems before them If they cannot obtain vital information? I ask.
