What I have Just related is not an Isolated instance. It is only the most recent and immediate of a long series of deliberate blockages. I may say here that the immigration subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee in the last day has been denied papers and proceedings and records of the State Department. So when I say the case I have been discussing is the most recent one. actually there is another of equally recent date. Throughout the entire executive branch there is. and long has been. an increasing tendency on the part of officials to conduct their affairs in secret. and to regard information as something to be withheld from the public. the press. and the Congress of the United States. including both Houses.
