Speech #800198281

Again. they say that these people will go to the farms. In 1946 1 percent of them went to the farms. We got to raising Cain about that. and the Immigration Service went to work and tried their best to get up some statistics on DPs as agricultural workers for the following year. and the best they could do was 6 percent. and probably 5 percent of those just passed over some farm and then went back into the slums of New York City or Chicago. You have 10.000.000 good German folks in our occupied zone who are more distressed and more in need than any person in the displacedpersons camps. They were driven out from behind the iron curtain as a result of the Yalta and other agreements.
