In the time in which I have addressed the Senate I have tried to point out the groups of persons who may be classified as displaced persons. and some of their characteristics. In view of the action we already have taken in this field. we should take the further action which is now proposed. We became adherents to the International Refugee Organization. whose sole objective was the resettlement of refugees. among whom are included the displaced persons. It is my opinion that unless we act in this connection. our adherence to that organization will be absolutely meaningless. The committee which. under the resolution. was appointed to make an investigation of this problem and to report to the Senate. has taken a position which. it seems to me. demands action.
