Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800184151

I know that the Senator is the chAirman of the Immigration Subcommittee of the Committee on the Judiciary. I do not know of anyone who knows more about Immigration law than does the distinguished Senator. from West Virginia. But I am sure he will agree with me that if these people have come into this country as nonimmigrants they came under statutes enacted by the Congress. There Is nothing wrong in their being here legally under the statutes. The only wrong is that if they stay here longer than the period for which they were admitted then they are here illegally.
