I may say to the distinguished Senator that I have before me thL figures as to the amounts paid by the United States in the fiscal year 194647 and in the fiscal year 194748. In this connection we must bear in mind that we had the responsibility of keeping these people from starving to death. During the fiscal year 194647 It cost the United States $130.000.000 to take care of and feed the displaced persons in the American zones in Germany and Austria. and perhaps also in Italy. During the fiscal year 194748 the displacedpersons camps were taken over by the International Refugee Organization. The contribution made by the United States during the fiscal year 194748 was $71.000.000. Other countries contributed $44.000.000.
