Mr. President. at this time I desire to make reference to Senate Resolution 137. which was passed in the closing days of the first session of the present Congress. That resolution authorized the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. or any duly authorized subcommittee thereof. to make a full and complete investigation of our entire immigration system. and directed that a report be made to the Senate not later than March 1. 1948. There was also a provision that. with respect to findings and recommendations on the subject of displaced persons. a separate report should be made on or before January 10. 1948. The chairman of the Judiciary Committee appointed a subcommittee consisting of the Senator from Missouri . the Senator from Kentucky . the Senator from Nevada . the Senator from Rhode Island . and myself.
