The people know communism. They have lived with it. and they are closer to it than we are. The thousands of refugees. many of them having come from countries which were occupied by the Soviets. people who have been locked in behind the. iron curtain. know the one thing in life that they do not want. They do not want a police or garrison state. If the recent elections in France and Italy showed anything. they showed that the people of Europe were exercising the most magnificent discipline of any people in the world. because instead of trying to blackmail the United States into aiding them by threatening to go communistic. as indicated by their votes. they voted exactly the other way.
