Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800045818

Today as it is Americans do not know what is going on behind the "iron curtain" interposed by Russia between the rest of the world and not only her own people but also those of several smaller nations along her borders and under her domination. If our State Department has this information. it should be told. It seems to me that Poland has received most unfortunate treatment from those who owe her much. Poland has ties with the United States extending back Into the colonial days before our independence was proclaimed. Poles of high and low degree fought for our freedom. It is because of this background of common understanding and close friendship. cemented by millions of Polish immigrants to the United States in recent years. that few Americans understand why our representatives made agreements which hurt the people of Poland.
