Session #80 · 1947–49

Speech #800045292

Moreover. the more American citizens are permitted to travel abroad. the more dollars will be left in foreign countries. thus not only strengthening the national economy of many foreign nations. but also enabling those countries to purchase our products. Mr. President. I again wish to emphasize that the intended study will not in any way include or touch the question of immigration. I not only will welcome the suggestions and recommendations of any Senators who are interested in this problem. but I earnestly solicit them. I may add that the greatest single item in our imports. curiously enough. is the import of our understanding of foreign countries. through the medium of foreign travel.
