Yet. the people of Greece. instead of being completely and finally ruined. as some had expected. not only took care of 1.250.000 refugees from Asia Minor and Thrace. but. working together. the people of old Greece and the Greek refugees from Turkey amazed outsiders by creating new life and prosperity for the entire country. within a few years after the upheaval of 1922. So long as there is human life in Greece. the spirit of Marathon and the spirit of. 1821 shall never die. There never was any danger of that spirit dying.
