Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790143307

I do not say that there should be no further restrictions upon immigration. I have made the statement that I thought there should be. But the Senator has read a bill which seems to bar all immigration. and I would not want to support the bill without considering the matter further. I know there are hardship cases in many families. There are cases of members being separated. and they should be reunited. But I think that the opening of the door to a general swing of immigration would be detrimental to the rights of returning soldiers and other persons as well.
