Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790107245

Mr. Speaker. I am glad that this time has been secured to give Members of Congress an opportunity of expressing their hopes that the Baldwin white paper may be modified so as to -permit immigration to Palestine. I wish that more time had been secured so as to give Members anopportunity of speaking at greater length on the subject. There is little doubt that the overwhelming majority of the American people and of their Representatives in Congress are insisting on action to relieve the present distressing situation. The blunt facts are that almost. 6.000.000 Jews have lost their lives in Europe during the past few years and only about 1.500.000 are left.
