Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790053438

Switzerland and other foreign countries. It has been suggested that Japanese would be affected. I have talked to officials in the Bureau of Immigration with respect to this question. They say this amendment could not possibly affect the Japanese. because no one whether under this act or not. will be permitted to come into this country except by securing visas from the State Department. Everyone who would come to this country under the terms of the act would have to be admitted by our State Department and the immigration authorities. and do not forget that everyone who applies is an American born person who did not lose citizenship in America through any fault of his own.
