Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780160767

We honestly believed that there would be no one who would be opposed to this first step that we are taking to enact legislation .to get rid of these undesirables. and therefore. very little time would be required for debate and consideration. I am informed there are some gentlemen who will offer -amendments. However. I feel that after the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization has given careful consideration and study to the matter that its recommendations should i4e followed. I have the utmost confldence in the committee. Its membership does not always agree. but when they do come to an agreement and report a bill unanimously. there is no question in my mind but that it must be a meritorious and deserving bill.
