The bill passed the House. and many months ago I reported it from the Committee on Immigration. Consideration of the bill was objected to. on the call of the calendar. by the distinguished junior Senator from Oregon . His unwillingness to have the bill considered and passed at that time was based upon an objection by the American Legion. I discussed the matter with the Senator from Oregon. as a result of a prodding by an officer from the War Department. which is very much concerned about the bill. The Senator from Oregon told me that if the American Legion withdrew its objection. he certainly had none.
