On October 9. 1943. a radio message from Dr. Hollington K. Tong was made from Chungking as follows: Coming on the eve of the Double Tenth. the approval of the bill for the repeal of the 60year Chinese Exclusion Act by the United States House Immigration Committee and House Rules Committee has been extremely well received in Chinas wartime capital. The Central Daily News promptly came out with an editorial describing the move not only as sagacious following the abolition of the unequal treaties between China and the United States but also as a necessary step toward a new world order based upon mutual respect. The journal adds that as soon as the bill becomes law a source of misunderstanding which has existed for 60 years between the two countries will be completely removed.
