This spring a bill was before the committee designed to grant citizenship to the wives of Chinese citizens of this country who have returned to China. married and many of them have reared families there. This bill was introduced in spite of the fact that if it became law it would be impossible for any woman or child to come here from China until many months after the end of the war in the Pacific. This is an example of the constant pressure to break down our immigration laws. The witnesses in favor of this legislation consisted principally of representatives of the church who had worked in China in behalf of their denominations. statements made lovingly. not critically. and from persons who had served in China in other capacities.
