Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780106363

First of all. let me point out to Members of the House that this bill. H. R. 3070. is a comprehensive. welldrawn bill. embracing thebasic principle of several bills introduced in the Committee on Immigration. The pride of authorship lies with no one individual. The bill embodies the thought of a great many Members who have been thinking about the matter for several months. It is a subject to which the Immigration Committee has given ample consideration. I think the gentleman from Illinois and the gentleman from Texas [Mr. GOSSETTI will agree that no bill before the Immigration Committee has received more consideration. about which more witnesses have been heard. and which has been more deeply studied than has been this particular bill. It is comprehensive. It is somewhat technical in its nature. and I know that many Members in reading the bill will be somewhat confused by some of its technical provisions. but I can say to the Members of the House that it has been approved by the Attorney General of the United States. and is well written to cover the subject desired.
