Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780041358

Mr. Speaker. because there seems to be some doubt about whether the administration wants to continue that constitutional provision guaranteeing free speech and a free press. I am introducing a bill which makes it an offense for anyone in the executive department to hold one of these conferences where the purpose is to give away our property or to bring in several hundred thousand or a million or two refugees without having a Congressman and a Senator present. The passage of this bill. if we can get it through. will let the people have something to say about that sort of action. At least it will let the people know what is going on.
