Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780038087

Further than that. the clerks office is open every day in the year. People go there and do business. If you will look at the earnings of the clerks office. you will find that the clerks have been earning far in excess of their expenditure. There is nothing in this testimony to indicate that. if those offices are closed. the Government would not lose money. I certainly feel that on naturalization proceedings. on visa proceedings. and with reference to witnesses and various other matters it is only fair that there be more than one clerks office in each State dealing with four or five million people.
