Other conditions of employment show a similar disparity in standards. As I pointed out before. seamen on American and Panamanian vessels average $200 a month. Norwegian seamen average $105 a month. Greek seamen average $84 a month. and Chinese seamen receive $76 a month. . I do not justify these desertions. I feel that there should be no desertions. but wishful thinking is not going to solve this problem. nor is deportation to Great Britain of these seamen going to solve the problem.
