Since the entry of this Nation into the war these .men. of course. are very anxious to be associated with the American Army rather than with the Canadian and British Armies. I have been advised that they are calling at the American Embassy in London at the rate of more than 50 a day seeking to be admitted into the American Army. The War Department officials testified. when the bill was pending in the Immigration Committee. that arrangements had already been perfected with the Canadian Government and with the British Government for the release of these men and their enlistment at comparable ranks in the armed forces of the United States. However. before these men can be paid. it is necessary that they become American citizens. and this bill provides a simple method of restoring their citizenship. It applies only to citizens of the United States who were enlisted in the armed forces of Canada and the British Empire and other nations who are resisting the aggression of Japan and the Axis Powers throughout the world today.
