Session #77 · 1941–43

Speech #770116556

This amendment would subvert the American proposition that there shall be no discrimination against anyone. irrespective of color. race. creed. or political affiliation. Thoughtful men throughout the country today are beginning to realize. and men who understand the technique of Fascist conquest from within are beginning to recognize the great danger that lies in the proposal advanced In this amendment. I can understand perfectly well why Mr. Wendell Willkie has volunteered to defend the right of a naturalized American citizen whose citizenship is being challenged because of his political affiliations. because of his membership in the Coinmunist Party. No one can charge Mr. Willkie with being a Communist.
