Session #77 · 1941–43

Speech #770018598

As a matter of fact. I really could not say what has brought about the change. I might state at this juncture that last fall when we were discussing the selectivetraining bill. one night about 10:30 I offered an amendment calling for the immediate deportation of Bridges. and some of my colleagues then prevailed upon me to withdraw the amendment. They stated then that it would hold up the bill. and they did not think it was quite germane to the bill. Others stated that the F. B. I. was investigating the activities of Mr. Bridges. and that they were sure he would be out of the country in 30 days.
