Congressman JOHN W. MCCORMACK. was terminated before its task was finished because certain influential groups in the country and certain Members of this body did not want such an investigation to be carried on. For several years the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. of which I have the honor to be chairman. has been pleading with Congress and the Rules Committee to grant them the power of subpena so that they could investigate further some information which had been brought to their attention which in their opinion would disclose the activities of groups working against the interests of this country. There were a number of witnesses who had important information to give but who refused to appear before the committee unless immunity was granted them. Even though the committee unanimously passed a resolution asking for this power they were unable to get it bectuse certain members of the allpowerful Rules Committee did not wish them to go on with this investigation.
