Mr. Chairman. I cannot vote in favor of this bill providing specifically for the immediate deportation of Harry Bridges. I do not believe that anyone who listened to the very profound speech of the gentleman from Alabama can have any doubt that the bill violates some of the most basic provisions of the Constitution of the United States and is. in fact. a usurpation of judicial functions which properly belong to the administrative and judicial branches. The practical effect of the passage of this bill is obvious to me. It will bring about an entirely disproportionate magnification of the importance of Harry Bridges in the eyes of many people.
