Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760229126

Bridges to get him out of a country that he does not like. It is fairly certain that passage of this bill in the Senate will be prevented. But favorable action by the House will serve notice upon the enforcement agencies of our Government that the Congress is determined to rid this country of undesirable aliens. This will have a wholesome effect upon the entire country. and it will remove any doubt in the minds of any Government official with respect to the overwhelming desire of the American people to expel Communist. Fascist. and Nazi aliens. Harry Bridges has become a symbol of the kind of aliens who are not wanted in America. The passage of this bill by an overwhelming vote may bring about a fearless and honest enforcement of our deportation laws.
