Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760229023

Suffice it to say that he has been a troublemaker. He has. not comported himself. in the manner that has met with the approval of American citizens generally. He has been a disturbing factor and ought to be deported from this country. We are now in the process of expending billions of dollars of the peoples money to prepare this country to meet any eventuality. The first thing we ought to do in this country is to get our own house in order and to see that we do not have within our own borders those who are guilty of or who likely would be guilty in time of a national crisis of sabotage and subversive activities. We do not want to have to wait in this country until we are spilling the lifeblood of our own nationals in defense of the country in order to rid ourselves of unwelcome guests. I think this man ought to have been deported a long time ago. Although the conclusion of the Landis report was that he should not be deported. I say that in that report he is indicted as an unwelcome visitor to this country.
