Mr. Speaker. there are millions of people in this country who are distressed and living under .undesirable and deplorable conditions. but however bad those conditions may be they are not as bad as the conditions under which millions of people in Europe are now forced to live due to the ravages of war. This Government has in warehouses and stockrooms throughout the country millions of -bales of cotton. thousands of bushels of wheat and corn. tons of dried fruits. all those things that go to sustain life and which are so sorely needed by the war refugees. I have today introduced a resolution authorizing the Government to turn over to the American Red Cross $25.000.000 worth of those products for distribution in Europe. I hope the Committee on Agriculture will give it the immediate and favorable consideration which is characteristic of the generous and charitable American heart.
