The gentleman from New York City appears to be very much exercised lest the Stubbs amendment or the amendment offered by the committee. if adopted. might cause a registration of all aliens in the United States. I wish it went that far. but I am sure it does not. It is estimated that more than 5.000.000 aliens are now in the United States illegally. More than 300.000 of these have W. P. A. jobs that belong to loyal American citizens. Millions of others have jobs in private industry. These aliens ought to become American citizens or be deported. May I add that I voted for a similar amendment when offered in the Appropriations Committee. I urged its adoption then.
