Session #74 · 1935–37

Speech #740207615

President. we are considering the enactment of a law which would deport aliens who. under existing statutes. entered this country illegally. The committee have studied the problem and agreed to the form of the bill. I cannot see that any good purpose would be served by recommitting it for further study. That question. of course. will be decided by the Senate. In the meantime. may I remind Senators of what will happen if no bill is enacted into law? It will mean the immediate deportation of thousands of aliens. many of whom have dependents. and. many of those dependents should not be sent away from the country.
