Session #74 · 1935–37

Speech #740021102

I think the gentleman will be assured of that point if he will read the last three lines of that bill. H. R. 3472. This bill was unanimously reported and it had the support of patriotic groups. When I got it to the floor of the Congress the gentleman from Texas objected to its immediate consideration and also objected to the bill when it was called up on the Consent Calendar yesterday. Am I to be understood as trying to open the doors to immigration? I have never attempted to open the doors. on the contrary. I want to keep them closed as tightly as does the gentleman from Texas.
