Now. I shall depart from my prepared statement if the gentleman wants to debate that. A year ago I had a bill before this Congress that would deport alien gunmen. dopepeddlers and the like. yet the gentleman from Texas voted against that bill. That bill was not intended to open up the doors of immigration at all. it simply tried to clear up a situation in this country which has grown up in the last 30 years whereby aliens in this country who have committed a number of misdemeanors could not be deported because they had not been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or convicted of a felony. The bill I brought up for consideration last year would deport just such aliens. but the gentleman from Texas voted against it.
