I may say. for the information of the Senator. that of course I recognize that the amendment which I offer is only temporary. but if vigorously. enthusiastically. and patriotically used it will be tremendously effectual as it has been in the hands of the European and Asiatic countries. However. I feel that we should do something that would at least give us a weapon that would put us on a parity as against the policy that has long since been adopted by countries of Europe and Asia. that we ought not to deprive American industry and the American laboring man of whatever protection this kind of legislation would give to them and which at the same time would stabilize industry and establish a confidence that is not possessed at the present time.
