I wish to remind the distinguished Senator that while the price of coffee has been reduced one would be impressed with the fact that less coffee is coming into this country. if we base it on the price. but when we measure it from the quantity point of view it has increased. Regarding the second question as to what effect the depreciation of our currency would have upon my amendment. I desire to state that. of course. my amendment would be unnecessary. if we were to depreciate our currency 60 percent or more in order to meet the low levels of foreign currencies. but such a course would place American labor on the lowlevel wage of the European and Asiatic. which condition I fervently hope will never be experienced by the wage earners of this land.
