Now. after it was prolonged for two years. an effort is being made not only to revive it for two or four years more but to fasten upon the country a permanent system of Federal interference with the rights of the States. I hope the motion will not prevail. While I have the floor I desire to call the attention of the Senator from Connecticut to a bill providing for the deportation of seamen. which was passed before adjournment last session. A motion to reconsider was made and is still pending. The motion was not acted upon before adjournment and. as stated. is still pending.
