Mr. President. I think I have voted for every bill providing for further restriction of immigration. Only a day or two ago I voted for the amendment proposed by the junior Senator from Alabama . The first part of the language of his amendment as proposed is as follows: Provided. That for the period of five years beginning January 1. 1931. the immigration of aliens Into the United States Is prohibited. I was glad to support that amendment. I have referred to my attitude with regard to immigration because it is my purpose to vote for what is known as the Kendrick amendment. In my judgment. there is no inconsistency in doing this. As I understand the amendment it relates in the largest measure to a particular and rather peculiar situation.
