With the unemployment conditions that prevail in the United States today. considering the fact that we virtually had no immigration laws here for the first 125 years of our Nations history. and in view of the fact that during some years a million and a million and a half of foreigners came to our shores. and now. when we are faced with widespread poverty throughout this Nation and with unemployment. I think it is time for us to further restrict immigration. Take this law that we have under consideration today. I find on page 44 the following: IMPLOYMENT saRvICM For the Employment Service. including the same objects specified under this head in the act making appropriations for the Department of Labor for the fiscal year 1930. for cooperation with the United States Veterans Bureau in the establishment of offices to secure employment for veterans. $23.000.
