Session #71 · 1929–31

Speech #710032725

Many of the textile industries of New England cotton spinners are moving down into that glorious section of our country. I bid them welcome and I want them to know that their manufactured cotton products will be properly cared for and protected in the sunny land of Dixie. The South will not permit them to suffer from ruinous competition with the pauper labor and cheap manufacturing concerns of Europe. We had just as well speak plainly on that subject now. and as a southern Democrat I gladly make that announcement. It is a condition and not a theory that confronts us.
