Session #70 · 1927–29

Speech #700059728

Mr. President. in view of the fact that this in no way changes the immigration law. I shall not insist on my objection at this time. I have worked for 20 years in the two Houses to strengthen the immigration law. to restrict imigration. and I do not want any loopholes made in the law by any separate enactments front time to time. Since I am assured that the committee. composed of Demnorats and Republicans and Progressives. all agree that this measure should pass at this time. I will not object. There being no ohjeetion. the Senate. as in Committee of the Whole. proceeded to consider the joint resolution. which was read. as follows: Resolred. etc.. That subdivisions (b) and (e) of section 11 of the immigration act of 1924. as amended. are amended by striking out the figures " 1928 " and inserting in lieu thereof the figures " 1929." The joint resolution was reported to the Senate without amendment. ordered to be engrossed for a third reading. read time third time. and passed.
