Speaker. first I wish to express my thanks to the distinguished chairman of the committee. This bill is only an additional proof of how far we have retrograded during the last 15 years. Nobody. of course. wants any insane. idiotic. or criminal immigration to come into our country. We have a sufficient number of those of native growth. But under this bill any man who has suffered and fought for his political or religious convictions will be denied admission to the United States and eventually deported from this country if found here after having been admitted. Thus. a man who advocates the principles of representative government in Italy Is considered a criminal there and may be arrested and imprisoned. In coming to this country he will be denied admission. or if it Is found out later that he had been in prison for opposing the Fascisti he will be deported.
