The Senator has not correctly stated my position. I never was in favor of unrestricted immigration. as the RECoRD will show. but I was in favor of receiving of selected populations those who wanted to come here. the people who were qualified and who came here from the white races. and who wanted to come here to live here. to become citizens. to swear allegiance to our flag. as our fathers all did at one time. That is my position. I do not know what the position of the KuKlux Klan is. and I do not care. But the position of the Senator is that he will not consent to the admission of these Europeans. who want to come here. live under our flag. and swear allegiance to and defend that flag. but he would submit the fate of the United States to a community of foreigners sitting in a foreign country. who do not want to come here. and who have not any use for our institutions.
