Session #69 · 1925–27

Speech #690023347

The league is powerful in Europe. it is not very powerful in the United States. Mr. President. we recently had to restrict Immigration to protect American labor from Europes unemployed. Our action was resented in Italy and all southern Europe. Italian statesmen recently undertook to advise Italians In this country what they should and should not do. showing that they still consider Italians in this country as Italian subjects. They have more members and influence in the league court than we have. They are not circumscribed by any constitutional inhibitions. nor is the World Court. The very suggestion that we can only join the court with reservations implies that there are objections to the court.
